Will Black Friday 2020 Be Cancelled?
The coronavirus pandemic has hit retailers especially hard, forcing many to remain closed for months. Even essential businesses had to narrow their product offering to only the most essential goods.
Black Friday is named for being “in the black” (meaning profit), as opposed to being “in the red” (meaning in debt). In other words, it’s a time when stores hope to turn their bottom line into profit rather than loss. So, in an especially difficult year like 2020, it makes sense that they won’t want to lose the Black Friday sales where they can profit. For some, it may be their last chance to turn things around.
For years, Cyber Monday has been the time to save big with online sales. Cyber Monday is the Monday after Black Friday. However, in recent years online sales for Black Friday have started even before Friday. So, it stands to reason that stores will continue to offer great deals online even if it’s not in person.
In conclusion, even though Black Friday 2020 might look different than the usual doorbuster crowds, expect great deals that could even be more spread out over the weeks that lead to Christmas holiday shopping.
