As our world faces the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic, many areas have emerged from the lockdown earlier this year. Retail stores and restaurants have re-opened in most areas in the United States. But, as positive cases continue to rise, some have made the decision to re-close stores until the virus is better under control.
Update: Walmart and Sam’s Clubs WILL all require masks beginning July 20 in all stores, according to KMSP.
Will Walmart Require Masks in All Stores?
Walmart CEO, Doug McMillon, said masks are currently required in about 3,700 of its more than 5,000 U.S. locations; where mandated by local laws. While that leaves only 1,300 + stores that do not require masks, McMillon said today that it’s “obviously something that’s on our minds.”
So, could Walmart soon require its shoppers nationwide to wear masks in all of its stores? The answer is, yes. They’re considering it.
McMillon appeared on the Bloomberg’s online television show, “Leadership Live with David Rubenstein.” where he stated that they’re thinking about requiring masks in all Walmarts nationwide.
In the US there are 4,700 Walmart super centers and neighborhood markets and another 600 Sam’s Club stores. Five million employees worldwide.
They created a leave policy for associates who needed to stay home – and hundreds of thousands have. So, because they need workers they’ve hired about 400,000 employees since March. Of them, about 60% are temporary hires.
Walmart has largely stayed open during the Coronavirus crisis, due to the essential nature of the products they sell – from food to medicine and more. Whereas, many retail stores have furloughed or laid off workers, and even filed bankruptcy and shuttered its stores.
