Claims Open: Fortnite Video Game Loot Box Settlement
If you or your kids play Fortnite or Rocket League, then don’t miss this! Because, eligible people could get V-Bucks (game currency) as well as $50 cash in the Fortnight Loot Box class action settlement. The lawsuit has settled and it is time to file your claim.
This lawsuit is known as Zanca v. Epic Games, Inc., Case No. 21-CVS-534.

What is a class action lawsuit settlement?
A class action lawsuit is one with multiple plaintiffs. In other words, there are more than one person being represented by the lawsuit. Oftentimes a plaintiff or plaintiffs file the case on behalf of many people who were affected by aren’t involved in the actual suit. For example, if you purchased an item that was later determined to be involved in a class action lawsuit, you may be entitled to compensation.
If you’re included in the class or group of people affected, then you can file a claim to receive money, coupons or replacement products. Each case is different, and each will specify who is included.
In addition, class action lawsuits may require proof that you are part of the group of affected people. In this case, proof of purchase or other specified proof is needed. However, in some cases, no proof is required. In that case, you can file a claim without proving that you are part of the class of people affected. Of course, when you file a claim you are doing so under penalty of perjury. So, do not file if you do not qualify.

What’s this settlement about?
The lawsuit alleges that Epic Games violated state consumer protection laws, prevented minors from exercising their contractual disaffirmation rights, and negligently misrepresented the value of its in-game items in connection with its Fortnite and Rocket League video games. Epic Games denies each and every allegation of wrongdoing, liability, and damages asserted in the Action, and Epic Games denies that the claims in the Action would be appropriate for class treatment if the litigation were to proceed through trial.

Fortnite or Rocket League video games by Epic Games.
Who is eligible for a refund?
You are a member of the Settlement Class if, at any time between July 1, 2015 and February 25, 2021, you resided in the United States, you had a Fortnite or Rocket League account that you used to play either game on any device and in any mode, and (a) exchanged in-game virtual currency for any in-game benefit, or (b) made a purchase of virtual currency or other in-game benefit for use within Fortnite or Rocket League.
Is a receipt required?
A receipt is not required. However, a valid account number is required. Documentation must be provided to support your claim if you made the real money purchase from a source other than Epic Games. This can be a screen shot, picture, or document that clearly shows the product(s) or item(s) purchased. And, the total amount paid, the timestamp, and the invoice/order/confirmation identifier. You also must provide documentation if a purchase was made from Epic Games, but you cannot provide the date of purchase.
How much will I get back?
You can claim either currency for use within the game (V-Bucks), or Vbucks and cash.
As part of the Settlement, Epic Games will automatically add 1,000 Fortnite V-Bucks to each Fortnite account that was used to acquire a random item “Loot Llama” loot box. And, 1,000 Rocket League Credits to each Rocket League account that was used to acquire a random item “Crate” loot box.
Each Settlement Class Member who timely submits a valid Claim Form will be entitled to receive their choice of either: a cash award (up to $50, in the form of a check mailed to you or direct deposit) or a credit of V-Bucks/Credits (up to 13,500 V-Bucks or 13,000 Credits). There is a limit of one Claim Form per game per Settlement Class Member (for a maximum of 2 Claim Forms per Settlement Class Member). And, each Settlement Class Member may receive only one cash award or one award of V-Bucks/Credits per game.
