What is Cotton Proof?
Cotton and canvas are used to make clothing, tents, panniers and more, due to the fabric strength and durability. Plus, cotton is a naturally breathable fabric, which is great during warmer months to help regulate body temperature. However, these fabrics are not inherently waterproof and once wet, take a long time to dry out.
To prevent water absorption, proof your clothing and gear with Cotton Proof. The flexible water repellent treatment will treat all of the fabric easily in your washing machine, or by hand. It allows moisture vapour to pass through, maintaining vital breathability and optimising the item’s performance in wet weather.
Cotton Proof will prolong the life of cotton, polycotton and canvas garments and gear, so you can stay dry and comfortable, whether wearing a cotton top or tucked inside your canvas tent!
This is a great way to try before you buy!

Nikwax Cotton Proof
Cotton is a natural fibre; as such, it is renewable, biodegradable and can be produced organically. It is highly versatile and can be used to produce many fabrics, each with different properties. Additionally, cotton can be blended with synthetic fibres, such as polyester, to combine the desirable properties of both materials.
Cotton fabrics are breathable, absorbent and strong. They are used in the manufacture of clothing and outdoor equipment, but are not inherently water repellent.
Your cotton items could be soaking up water just because they are dirty. First, try cleaning them with Nikwax Tech Wash®, and if they are fairly new, or recently re-waterproofed, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) will be revitalised just from cleaning. But once items have been thoroughly used, you will need to add DWR using Nikwax Cotton Proof™, after cleaning first with Nikwax Tech Wash®.
