Lucky Brand Bankruptcy: Is Your Store Closing?
Another casualty in the Retail Apocalypse, after 30 years Lucky Brand Jeans has filed for bankruptcy. Lucky Brand Dungarees LLC, said it plans to close 13 stores and may shutter more during the bankruptcy process.
Lucky Brand Dungarees has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and said it has a deal lined up to sell the company to buyers led by apparel retail operator SPARC Group, which operates under the Aeropostale and Nautica brands. (Los Angeles Times)
In a court filing, chief restructuring officer Mark Renzi described a proposal to sell Lucky to buyers led by apparel retail operator SPARC Group – owner of Aéropostale – for $140.1 million in cash and $51.5 million in credit. Lucky said the offer would preserve much or all of the company’s current network of stores. (NBC Los Angeles)
Lucky said that early this year it had about 3,000 employees, most of them part-timers. After stores closed down because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company furloughed nearly 2,700 of them and has brought back only about 900. (KTLA)

This news comes on the heels ofretail giants such as J.C. Penney declared bankruptcy and plans to close 200 stores, And, Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works announced they were closing 300 stores. Gordmans bankruptcy and store closings. Tuesday Morning stores declare bankruptcy. And, of course, Pier One Imports closing all of their stores. Shortly after Neiman Marcus, another department store giant, declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy amid the coronavirus pandemic. And, most recently The Children’s Place announced they would close 300 stores. and 24-Hour fitness closes doors to nearly half of its clubs.
