RECALL! Bagged Salad Sold at ALDI, Hy-Vee & Jewel-Osco
If you’ve purchased bagged lettuce salad recently, then take note! Because the CDC, public health and regulatory officials in several states, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating a multistate outbreak of Cyclospora infections linked to bagged salad mix. Additionally, products were purchased at ALDI, Hy-Vee, and Jewel-Osco stores in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, and Nebraska.
Of course, CDC is advising that consumers do not eat these, and retailers not sell them.

- Product contains: iceberg lettuce, red cabbage
- All Hy-Vee Brand Garden Salad sold in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, and Nebraska.
- Product contains: Iceberg Lettuce, Carrots, Red Cabbage.
- All Jewel-Osco Signature Farms Garden Salad sold in Illinois
- Product contains: Iceberg Lettuce, Carrots, Red Cabbage.
What’s a Cyclospora Infection
Cyclospora is a parasite that can be contracted by eating produce. Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal disease that can last more than a month.
- Watery diarrhea (most common).
- Explosive diarrhea.
- Loss of appetite.
- Weight loss.
- Cramping.
- Bloating.
- Increased gas.
- Nausea.
- Fatigue.
Similarly, people with laboratory-confirmed Cyclospora infections and who reported eating bagged salad mix before getting sick have been reported. As of June 19, 2020, a total of 76 people with laboratory-confirmed Cyclospora infections associated with this outbreak have been reported from 6 states: IA (28), IL (23), KS (1), MN (10), MO (7) and NE (7).
What Should You do?
Most importantly: Do not eat it. Or, if some has been eaten and no one has gotten sick – do not eat the rest of it. In other words, do not eat salads or other dishes that include ALDI Little Salad Bar Brand Garden Salad, Hy-Vee Brand Garden Salad or Jewel-Osco Signature Farms Garden Salad.
In most cases you should be able to return it for a refund.
What if you ate it and got sick?
- Talk to your healthcare provider.
- Write down what you ate in the two weeks before you started to get sick.
- Report your illness to the health department.
- Assist public health investigators by answering questions about your illness.
